Our Junkersdorf center

Ulrich-Brisch-Weg 1

Junkersdorf KindergartenOur center on Ulrich-Brisch-Weg opened in 2012. It is located on the compound of a former Belgian army base in midst of a newly developed residential area (Stadtwaldviertel) in Cologne-Junkersdorf. The kindergarten is located in newly designed rooms in modern style. It offers 50 places for children from one to six years of age.

Kindergarten JunkersdorfWe have three groups at this center. The "Bumblebees" are the youngest group of 10 to 12 one to two year olds. This part of the center is dedicated to the special needs of the very young children and serves as a reception class where new kids are slowly introduced into community care. The "butterflies" have 16 to 20 kids of two to four years of age. The "dragonflies" are our preschool group of approx. 18 children in the age range of four to six.

Junkersdorf ChildhoodSpace and materials in our center are arranged to promote active learning within a safe, comfortable and secure environment. The rooms are divided into areas organized around specific kinds of play and learning areas, such as construction area, reading corner, areas to move, craft areas and spaces for diapering, meals and naps. All group rooms have huge windows facilitating air circulation and entry of lots of light allowing all children to see and discover what is happening outside.

Kindergarten JunkersdorfThere are seperate rooms for play and rest.

Toilets and nappy changing areas are suited for young children.

The exclusive outside playground sums up to 500 sq.m. altogether.

Meet the principal: Silke Biedermann

Silke Biedermann

My name is Silke Biedermann and I am the principal of the rainbowtrekkers center in Cologne- Junkersdorf. I am born in Minden in Ostwestfalen, where a large part of my family still live, including my three adult children. I live with my partner in Cologne.

After my schooling, I first took the profession of chemical laboratory assistant. My own children and the contact to many other young families aroused my interest in child development and socialization processes. Therefore, over 15 years ago, I decided to study Social Education.

After my studies I gained experience in various fields. As a director of a project for early help for young families, in a language and reading promotion project, as a coordinator for a family center and as a kindergarten principal. I have been practicing this function for many years now with great pleasure.

It is important for me to have an open ear for all young and old people who are part of the kindergarten environment. I am happy to be a motivator or supporter for children, parents and team.

It is also important for me, in cooperation with all team members, to create spaces and opportunities for children in which they can develop individually as well as live out their exploratory urges. A good partnership with the parents is an important prerequisite for the children to feel safe and secure in order for them to pursue this exploration urge.
