Our center on Ulrich-Brisch-Weg opened in 2012. It is located on the compound of a former Belgian army base in midst of a newly developed residential area (Stadtwaldviertel) in Cologne-Junkersdorf. The kindergarten is located in newly designed rooms in modern style. It offers 50 places for children from one to six years of age.
One part of the center is dedicated to the special needs of the under three. Here, the very young ones are slowly introduced into community care. The other part is dedicated to the need of three to six-year-old children. Space and materials in our infant-toddler setting are arranged to promote active learning within a safe, comfortable and secure environment.
The rooms are divided into areas organized around specific kinds of play and learning areas, such as construction area, reading corner, areas to move, craft areas and spaces for diapering, meals and naps. All group rooms have one floor-to-ceiling window facilitating air circulation and entry of lots of light allowing all children to see and discover what is happening outside.
There are seperate rooms for play and rest.
Toilets and nappy changing areas are suited for young children.
The exclusive outside playground sums up to 500 sq.m. altogether.
Leadership: Heike Kloos
My name is Heike Kloos. I was born here in Germany and grew up in the beautiful Rhineland. As a child I spent time in the USA and as an adult was always attracted to go abroad.
I spent several years working at an international kindergarten in Belgium, and from there I went to Bangladesh, where I worked at the Dhaka International School (an IB School). Working in an international environment is a lot of fun, therefore I gladly accepted the job at rainbowtrekkers in 2015.
In 2016 I started running the daycare center in Junkersdorf. I like working with children and enjoy supporting their learning and play.
