Are there still free spots available at rainbowtrekkers?

When will you be able to tell me whether there are free places available?

The opening of a free place depends on various criteria, such as your own need for when to send your child to day care and the constellation within the rainbowtrekkers group itself.

There is always the possibility that space will open up during the year due to parents moving out of town.

How high is the care fee at rainbowtrekkers?

You will be asked to join our sponsorship association. Additional food money will be paid directly to the kindergarten.

You will also be asked to pay a kindergarten contribution to the local administration, depending on your income. Click here to find out more about the different fees to be covered.

What are the opening hours?

Our regular opening times are from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Caregiving contracts cover 45 hours a week. Thanks to special funding by the City of Cologne, we are currently able to offer extended opening times for no extra charges: Children of shift workers and all other early birds are even welcome from 7.30 a.m. until further notice.

What about holidays?

The kindergarten is closed 27 days a year. These are usually spread over the school summer holidays (3 weeks), Christmas (approx. 1 week) and individual bridge and training days. The closing times will be announced ahead of time before the start of the kindergarten year.

Can we make an appointment to see the facilities of rainbowtrekkers?

In order to maintain the daily routine at rainbowtrekkers, we currently do not schedule private visits for parents when there are no free places. If you are interested in getting to know us personally, we would kindly ask you to send us a place request and we will get back with you once we can indeed offer you a free spot.

Why hasn’t rainbowtrekkers been in touch with me?

As we receive many enquiries weekly, personal contact in this case would unfortunately exceed our available resources. Also for this reason, we are unable to provide information regarding the state of your application – neither per telephone, answering machine nor in person at the kindergarten.

This is not intended negatively; we simply do not have the time available.

What happens now?

Your data is automatically saved in our enquiries database. When it is indicated that a definite place for your child is available on a specific date, we will contact you and invite you to a personal getting-to-know-you meeting.

When is the planning certain?

The availability of places is directly related to whether the age and gender of your child fits into one of our groups. As a general rule, we want to have the planning of places for the following kindergarten year, beginning in August, completed by October of the current year.

However, due to children leaving and new children starting during the kindergarten year, available places can also change at short notice.

When can I visit one of your kindergartens?

If we contact you and you are still interested in a place in our kindergarten, we will invite you to a personal meeting in one of our kindergartens.

Please understand that, due to time restrictions, we are unable to undertake personal discussions and cannot answer queries while we are not able to offer a certain place.

What are the selection criteria at rainbowtrekkers?

The enquiries are greater than the places available. That is why we decide (understandable for all parents) using the following criteria (ordered by importance):

  1. The child’s sibling(s) already attend(s) the kindergarten.
  2. The child’s age fits into the potential group.
  3. The child would contribute to a well-balanced mix of gender in the group.
  4. The parents reflect the values and the pedagogical concept of the kindergarten and declare themselves ready for an educational partnership.
  5. The admission of the child contributes to a balance of social and cultural diversity.
  6. The family is new in the city and without a support network.
